About MSG Promotions

MSG Promotions Adopt a PlayerAdopt-A-Player is an interactive educational program developed by MSG Promotions, Inc.  This unique educational program is designed as a learning tool to engage 3rd and 4th grade students as they develop a “pen-pal” relationship with professional and/or amateur athletes throughout the course of the school year.

The program is written as a unit of instruction with lesson plans and activities that incorporate the athlete and their sport into school subjects, including creative writing skills and literacy, social studies, economics, geography, map skills, visual arts and math.  Each activity meets the State Academic Standards for the 3rd and 4th grade curricula.

The first implementation of the program was launched on October 1, 2008 in conjunction with the 2009 U.S. Women’s Open Championship at Saucon Valley Country Club, July 6-12, 2009.  Twenty-five professional and amateur golfers – including Paula Creamer, Nicole Castrale, Juli Inkster and Karrie Webb – committed to participate in the program.  Each player has been “adopted” by 6-8 classrooms and will correspond with the students by posting comments on an electronic blog located on the 2009 U.S. Women's Open Web site (www.2009uswomensopen.com/adopt-a-player/).

2009 siteThis fun, educational medium allows students to correspond with their adopted player over nine months of the school year. Students will also follow their adopted player online as she competes in tournaments throughout the world.

For the Women’s Open, Adopt-A-Player will culminate the week of July 6 – 12, 2009 at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.  Each student will receive a complimentary T-shirt in the specific color chosen by their adopted player with the name of the player on the front.  The students will be encouraged to wear their T-shirt when they attend the U.S. Women's Open, creating a sea of color around the grounds.  This will also serve as an easy way for the players to identify the children with whom they have been corresponding throughout the school year.
